I had the privilege to attend Fresh Inc in June 2018, and what an amazing festival it was! I learned a whole bunch, I worked closely with Fifth House Ensemble, and I got to work with the awesome musicians there!
Composing is a weird thing: you make something you love, that you value, and that you think is pretty cool. It’s basically your baby. But, then you show someone your baby and you say, “What do you think?” It is a very strange experience. I realized that when I was trying to start this piece, I was unintentionally trying to impress people with my music, trying to show off my baby. Thanks to some encouraging words from one of the professors at my school, I decided to write heavy metal unapologetically. I would say that I hope you enjoy my heavy metal baby, but I don’t care about that. I love my baby, and that's all I care about.
