Catch Me! (2016)
for wind sextet. 4.5 min.
This piece written in 2016 for the Imani Winds Chamber Music Festival 2016, and first performed at the Stiefel Concert Hall at Mannes School of Music.
This piece is very playful in nature, and the beginning motive of the bassoon teases the other players to play “tag,” almost as if saying “catch me!”. This piece is a fusion of Frank Ticheli-style scoring, jazz, and minimalistic textures.
(Catch Me! was retitled and reworked into a three movement piece, Rebirth of the Sun. This piece is the last movement of it, but can be played on its own.)
